Stepping into controversy: Mixed reactions as Gucci launches Australian kanagroo fur-lined shoesGucci has just launched this season’s wild new trend – kangaroo fur-lined fashion footwear. But not everyone is impressed.

Gucci’s fur-lined loafers first took centre stage in July when they made their debut appearance in the fashion brand’s menswear runway show. Soon after, Gucci launched the female equivalent as part of their 2015 Fall/Winter new season look.

Making a global impression – the fluffy footwear seems to have fashion-lovers and animal welfare activists divided as a public debate has emerged about whether they look ‘fugly’ and if the kangaroo fur is ethically sourced.

Ranging from between AU$900 to AU$1500 the shoes are available for purchase both online in and have hit the shelves of high-end storesSome trend-followers have taken to Gucci's social media to react to the aesthetic appeal of the shoes, dubbing them 'fugly' and 'hideous'A spokesperson for Gucci confirmed that the brand had been using 'environmentally friendly' wild Australian kangaroo fur to produce the footwear
