A Lagos-based Non Governmental Organization, ACTS Generation GBV has released a disturbing video of a 17-month old baby with terrible bruises on the back. The baby who is a twin, was said to be beaten so badly by the mother.
The NGO posted the disturbing video on Facebook calling on the attention of the governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode.
Here’s the story as narrated by the NGO…
“Attention Gov Akinwunmi Ambode DSVRT LAGOS – any other Government Officer.
I am so pained and quite annoyed right now. ACTS Generation got a message about a severe child abuse situation yesterday 12th July. The father reported to a friend who sent us the video of a 17 Month Old baby and his twin was beaten black and blue by the mother – video below. 17 MONTH!! Because they poured the garri water on the mattress and also cut a chain belonging to her sister! (Another video is on the thread below).
The father said this is how she does – even with the older child of 3 years and he has been cautioning her but when he saw the bruises on this child and twin, he nearly lost it but restrained himself and instead said no more silence – but to report.
Now my upset is this – we passed on the information for quick intervention by the government since we don’t have such powers as an NGO – and members of the Child sector of Lagos State WENT THERE THIS MORNING AND RATHER THAN TAKE THE CHILDREN AWAY PENDING ANY FORM OF INTERVENTION LEFT THEM THERE!
I called to speak to the Officer in charge this afternoon and was told they are ‘on it’ – and that today being Friday, child Welfare is closed!!!
When I said but in England those children. Would have been taken – she said that is England that they have their own way here!
Is this how it should be? That is why child abuse cases continue – when instant action is not taken against perpetuators! Children are sexually molested and family will be compromised!
If I had the authority I would have taken the children OUT of there to an Orphanage TODAY PENDING investigation!
I am putting this out so maybe someone with a direct connection to Gov Akinwunmi Ambode Akinwunmi Ambode – who is passionate about domestic violence and child abuse – can see this and probably see where there is a glitch in the system! Why children obviously ABUSED are left in the hands of the abuser!
This is terrible and that woman is obviously not stable. I understand she has anger issues and this got worse with the entry of the first child and then the twins.
Please let Akinwunmi Ambode see this oh! Akinwunmi Ambode
