Several explosions and persistent gun fire have been ringing out since 5:35pm on Thursday evening across parts of Potiskum local government area in Yobe state.
News correspondents report that the sounds can still be heard around Focal Junction near a military check point.
A resident in the area told Daily Trust on phone:
“We were outside when a bomb-like deafening sound rent the air. We all scampered for safety but presently we can still hear other explosions and sounds of gunfire.”
He said that the area is always crowded with traders and prayed for God to limit the number of casualties.
The JTF in the state raided a house of suspected boko haram militants on Wednesday following a tip-off that the group had planned to lunch an attack on the town soon.
