A group selfie that Oscars 2014 host Ellen DeGeneres organized at the start of Sunday’s Oscars show is now in the record books. According to Twitter, it’s the most retweeted tweet ever. As at today, the now famous group selfie has been retweeted a whooping 2.8 million times!

TWITTER-TWEETThis figure has by far beaten the previous record holder…a  tweet by President Barack Obama which was retweeted about 782,000 times.

Ellen’s group selfie featured stars such as Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyong’o, Kevin Spacey, Julia Roberts, Jared Leto, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep and Ellen herself.

Now, the interesting thing about Ellen’s selfie (which was actually taken by Bradley Cooper using Ellen’s phone) wasn’t only that it was retweeted by millions. It actually crashed Twitter site for about 20mins!
