Margaret Thatcher died of a stroke this morning at the age of 87 after many years of ill health.
The Conservative politician was the UK’s first female Prime Minister serving from 1979 to 1990. Her spokesman Lord Bell said:
‘It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning.’
She was last seen publicly on October 13, 2012 dressed in blue as she left her home in London for lunch on her 87th birthday. Prime Minister David Cameron said:

Buckingham Palace said the Queen is sad to hear the news of the death of Baroness Thatcher and Her Majesty will be sending a private message of sympathy to the family.
The ‘Iron Lady’ who became the longest serving British prime minister of the 20th century, will be honoured with a full state funeral at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Apart from her, Winston Churchill’s was the only to be granted such an honour. His funeral was also held there in 1965.
