French riot police have fired tear gas and baton-charged England fans in Lille where 400 Russian ‘ultras’ have reportedly vowed to attack them.
Hundreds of fans surged from a pub where they had been chanting ‘we hate Russia’ before running through Lille city centre this afternoon.
Dozens of riot police then trailed them and, when the fans were corralled in a side street, fired tear gas to disperse them.
The violent scenes unfolded shortly after Russia were beaten 2-1 by Slovakia at the city’s Métropole stadium.
Talksport commentator and former footballer Stan Collymore was among those caught up in the tear gas amid chaotic scenes a day before England take on Wales in their second game of Euro 2016.
