Italian giants Inter Milan could make a move for out of favour Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi, if their bid to take Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva on loan doesn’t materialise., 90min reports.
The San Siro club have sounded out a new holding midfielder as their prime target in the upcoming January transfer window and have reportedly written up a list of options.
According to a report in the Guardian, Inter ideally want to take Lucas on loan for the remainder of the season – with Lassana Diarra, Milan Badelj, Luiz Gustavo and Mikel cited as back-ups.
The Brazilian has rarely featured this season under Jurgen Klopp, making just three Premier League starts and 11 appearances in total. It is understood the German is willing to sanction a move away for the player – who has been at Liverpool since 2007.
Similarly to Lucas, Mikel has also had to contend with a place on the bench at Chelsea for the majority of the season under Antonio Conte – he hasn’t made a single Premier League appearance so far.
It was reported recently that Mikel had an offer on the table from China to join the ever-expanding Super League, but the player is expected to snub serious cash in favour of staying in Europe to play in a more competitive league.
The Nigerian is understood to be keen to leave Stamford Bridge after falling behind N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic and even youngster Nathaniel Chalobah.
The 29-year-old was signed in 2006 by Jose Mourinho from under the noses of Manchester United, and has scored one goal for the club. After 10 years of service, the player looks to be on the way out in January but could it be for the the black and blue of Inter?
