It’s hard to judge England’s Euro 2016 campaign so far.

A decent performance against Russia was ruined after conceding a last-minute equaliser. An insipid first-half display against Wales was followed up with a dominant second 45 which saw them win 2-1 in injury-time. And the Three Lions concluded their group stage by struggling to break down a stubborn Slovakia side to draw 0-0.

Roy Hodgson’s side have received a favourable draw in the last-16 as they face Iceland, but they find themselves on a tough half of the draw alongside the likes of Spain, Italy and Germany.

England may have only conceded twice in the tournament so far, but there were concerns about the defence prior to the competition. Chris Smalling had a decent enough season for Manchester United but it was uncertain who his partner would be.

Gary Cahill endured a difficult campaign for Chelsea as they finished tenth while John Stones was less than convincing at times for Everton.

But Hodgson opted for Cahill to play alongside Smalling and it seems as though his choice has been the correct one after some steady displays in the heart of the defence.

While Cahill may not have been embarrassed during the competition, he has been in training.

England v Wales - Group B: UEFA Euro 2016

That’s because Jack Wilshere cheekily nutmegged the Chelsea centre-back during a training drill today.

Take a look at the cheeky nutmeg below:

Keep those legs closed, Gary.

Cahill will need to be at his very best if England are to go all the way this summer. If they get past Iceland on Monday, they will likely face France in the quarter-finals before Italy, Spain or Germany in the semi-finals.

Wilshere may have displayed a cheeky bit of skill in training, but it’s unlikely that the Arsenal midfielder will be in the starting XI for the tie with Iceland.

The midfielder was given an opportunity to impress against Slovakia after Hodgson rested Wayne Rooney and Dele Alli, but struggled to play his natural game and was substituted shortly after half-time.
