Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp can never be accused of taking himself too seriously.
The enigmatic German has been a breath of fresh air since his arrival in England in October 2015 – with his passion and sense of humour leading many neutrals to hail him as a class act, 90min reports.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager was on top form once again when he recalled the events of last year’s Christmas bash – straight after an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Watford.
According to the Times’ Oliver Kay, Klopp was adamant that his players and staff would cut loose and have fun at the party despite the demoralising defeat, and declared that players were not allowed to leave until 1am in his speech!
He apparently said:
“We are all disappointed, but the game has gone now. Right now, this is our priority. I don’t mind whether you drink, but no one leaves here before 1am. Whatever we do together, we do as well as we can – and tonight that means we party.”
His pep talk must have had a positive effect as his Reds went on to reach the finals of both the League Cup and the Europa League, albeit losing both games to Manchester City and Sevilla respectively.
Liverpool look set to challenge on all fronts this season with their galvanizing gaffer at the helm, as they take on Southampton in the EFL Cup semi-final next Wednesday.
Should they edge past the Saints it would mean a third final for Klopp since taking over from Brendan Rodgers, and a potential clash in the final with bitter rivals Manchester United, who face Hull City in the other semi-final.
