Taking home the Album Of The Year Grammy is arguably the highest honour in the music industry.
But as the 2017 nominations were announced early on Tuesday morning, there were some big names noticeably missing from the prestigious category.
Kanye West – who received eight nods in more minor categories – missed out on a nomination for his Life Of Pablo.
Still, he can’t be too disappointed by his eight nominations – indeed he is second only to Beyonce (who has nine) and equal to Rihanna and Drake.
This year Kanye is up for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song for Ultralight Beam and Best Sung Performance for Famous, among others.Fans were disappointed not to see the late David Bowie received a posthumous nod for his critically acclaimed final album Blackstar; he is seen here in a picture released two days before his death earlier this year
As for Bowie, during his lifetime he only ever received one competitive Grammy, despite ten nominations. He was also handed the Lifetime Achievement award in 2006.
This year he has received four more nominations, with Blackstar listed for Best Rock Performance, Rock Song, Alternative Music Album and Engineered Album.
Big names were also disappointed in the Record Of The Year category – with Justin Bieber’s Purpose, Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop The Feeling, and Drake’s One Dance not making the grade.
