Idris Elba auditioned to play Gaston in the new live-action remake of Disney’s Beauty And The Best – a role that ultimately went to Luke Evans.
Actor and international sex symbol Idris dropped the bombshell to People this week, telling Jess Cagle:
‘I honestly love musicals.’
”I called! I called. I said: “Listen, I want in.” They were like: “Uh, you know, uh, wow. Okay.” So, somewhere, they have a tape of me singing,’
…dished Idris, 45, of being up for the role of Belle’s villainous suitor in the Disney movie.
When Jess prodded him on whether the tape would ever go public, Idris vamped: ‘No,’ and when pressed again: ‘Here’s the thing: no,’ getting a laugh both times.
‘Wait, was it bad?’ Jess asked, to which Idris pointed out: ‘Well, I didn’t get the part!’
He joked: ‘They were like: “I think you’re a little old.” “Oh.” No, they didn’t say that.’Asked whether he harbored any bitterness toward Luke for scooping up the role, Idris’ voice leapt up an octave as he said: ‘No, only a little bit.’
It went back down as he clarified that he was kidding again, saying: ‘No, I love you, Luke. You know that. Great actor.’
