Manchester United starlet Marcus Rashford is on a four-man transfer shortlist at the Bernabeu, as Real Madrid look to find non-Kylian Mbappe shaped players to replace Alvaro Morata as a strong backup forward.
Diario Gol report that the reigning Spanish and European champions are preparing themselves to miss out on Mbappe this summer, with Monaco standing firm in their strict ‘no sale’ stance and the upper echelons of the club’s hierarchy unconvinced that spending well over €100m on an 18-year-old is entirely necessary.
With that in mind, ‘advisers of the club’ have worked with Zidane to create a shortlist of potential targets, which features Rashford, Timo Werner, Kasper Dolberg and – in a slight twist on the rest of the list – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s presence led to just 16 league starts for the 19-year-old last season, having burst onto the scene under Louis van Gaal against FC Midtjylland and Arsenal in the midst of an almighty injury crisis at Old Trafford.
The teenager scored just five Premier League goals in the 2016/17 campaign, largely due to being shunted out wide on the left to make room for Ibrahimovic to lead the line up front.
However, his numbers playing as a lone striker were nothing special either – with just one goal in six top flight starts leading the line, with a further one (against Celta Vigo) in four Europa League starts up front.
Any move remains unlikely, with United far from willing to sell the player who most at the club see as a vital part of the Red Devils’ future and Real themselves having a number of targets to keep themselves occupied.
