Mariah Carey Reveals She Is Bipolar – “I Lived In Denial & Isolation”

MARIAH CAREY-780x439Today was just another Wednesday morning until the cover of People magazine hits newsstands around the world with Mariah Carey’s biggest secret.

For the first time, Mariah shared her ongoing battle with bipolar disorder.mariah carey-bipolar-people mag coverAccording to the National Institute of Mental Health,

“Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks.”

There are four types of bipolar disorder, and Mariah was diagnosed with bipolar II. Bipolar II is “defined by a pattern of depressive episodes and hypomanic episodes, but not the full-blown manic episodes described above.”

Mariah is taking medication and actively in therapy. She told People her medication “seems to be pretty good. It’s not making me feel too tired or sluggish or anything like that.
