Nigerians Launch Nigerian Flag Filter For Profile Images On Facebook

PBW-NIGERIAN FLAGRemember when I talked about the Paris disaster and how Mark Zuckerbery and Facebook did not show the same solidarity for Nigeria as they did for France?

Some Nigerians on Facebook went ahead to superimpose our Nigerian flag on their image in a move of patriotism and I joined them too. This is my current profile picture on Facebook.

There has been a lot of pressure on the CEO of Facebook to show equal sympathy and solidarity for nations affected with similar disasters and terrorism. So Mr. Zuckerberg took to Facebook and wrote:

“Many people have rightfully asked why we turned on Safety Check for Paris but not for bombings in Beirut and other places.

Until yesterday, our policy was only to activate Safety Check for natural disasters. We just changed this and now plan to activate Safety Check for more human disasters going forward as well.

Here’s more detail on Safety Check and our policy for deploying it from theFacebook Safety page:

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with questions and concerns about this. You are right that there are many other important conflicts in the world.

We care about all people equally, and we will work hard to help people suffering in as many of these situations as we can.”MARK ZUCKERBERG-PARIS FLAG
