Crystal Palace breathed new life into their season as they climbed out of the bottom three thanks to a crucial 1-0 win over relegation rivals Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon, 90min reports.

Patrick van Aanholt’s controlled finish 12 minutes before half-time proved the difference between the two sides, as the Dutchman not only grabbed his first goal for the club, but also handed Palace manager Sam Allardyce his maiden Premier League victory at Selhurst Park.

January loan signing Mamadou Sakho was handed his debut for the hosts, as both he and Yohan Cabaye came into the side following Palace’s last league match against Stoke.

Aitor Karanka meanwhile brought back a number of first-team regulars following last weekend’s narrow 3-2 victory over Oxford in the FA Cup, with the likes of Alvaro Negredo, Cristhian Stuani and Victor Valdes all returning.
