The Duchess of Sussex stunned the fashion crowd tonight by putting in a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards.
Meghan, 37, surprised the audience when she came on stage to present a gong to her wedding dress designer, Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy, as a special guest at the British Fashion Awards at the Royal Albert Hall last night.
The Duchess, who is expecting her first child in the spring, looked sensational in a black one-shoulder fishtail gown and praised the ‘kindness’ and the ‘values’ of the woman who created her wedding dress, adding that for her, the importance of fashion is ‘really in being able to understand that it’s about supporting and empowering each other, especially as women.’
Waight Keller who won the prestigious British Womenswear Designer of the Year award thanked Meghan personally in her speech. The designer said:
‘This woman is so amazing. I got to know Meghan on such a personal level. To have someone like that trust you on such a personal moment in their life… I can’t thank you enough because it was the most beautiful moment.’
The minimalist wedding gown designed for the Duchess by Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy – won the designer the celebrated British Designer of the Year Womenswear Award.
It had a boat neck framing Ms Markle’s shoulders and a five metre long white silk veil which included floral detail representing all 53 countries of the Commonwealth.
