President Obama Honours Oprah, Bill Clinton And Others With The Presidential Medal Of Freedom

The President and First Lady Michelle Obama arrive for the Presidential Medal of Freedom presentation.President Barack Obama on Wednesday, bestowed the award of the Presidential Medal Of Freedom on former US president Bill Clinton, media mogul Oprah Winfrey and 14 other worthy Americans.

This epoch-making event comes 50 years after the assassination of the awards founder, President John F. Kennedy who never got the chance to present a Presidential Medal Of Freedom himself.

This sad fact was on Obama’s mind as he conducted the ceremony. He saw it as a chance to pay tribute to one President [JFK] while honouring another [Clinton]. President Obama who arrived the venue with First Lady, Michelle Obama, said:

“This year it’s just a little more special because this marks the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy establishing this award.”

JFK was an inspiration to Obama, but even more so to Clinton, who was 16 when he shook hands with Kennedy back in 1963.
