Prince Charles Blocks Brother Prince Andrew’s Request To Give His Daughters Full-Time Royal Duties

Fighting their corner: Prince Andrew, 56, reportedly wants his daughters Princess Eugenie, 26, centre, and Princess Beatrice, 28, right, to be given full-time royal rolesThe Queen has been pulled into the centre of a row between her sons over the role Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie should play within the Royal Family, it has been reported.

Prince Andrew, 56, is said to want his daughters to carry out royal duties full-time, giving them roles similar to their cousins Prince William and Prince Harry.

He also said the princesses, who are seventh and eighth in line to the throne, should be given larger living quarters within Kensington Palace, the Sunday Express reported.

Caught in the middle: The Duke of York reportedly put the request to his mother The QueenQueen Elizabeth II

The Duke of York allegedly put the concerns in a letter to his mother, who passed on the issue to Prince Charles.

Charles, 67, reportedly blocked the move, fearing an increase in the number of taxpayer-funded royals would threaten his popularity when he becomes king.

Princess Beatrice, 28, is currently focusing on her ‘entrepreneurial ambitions’ and is not in full-time employment after holding a string of jobs over the last five years

A source told the Sunday Express Prince Andrew is concerned his daughters are being overshadowed by William, Kate and Harry.

The source said: ‘He has long argued that as the only “blood princesses” in the family, Beatrice and Eugenie deserve proper royal roles like their cousins, along with the same standard of accommodation at Kensington Palace.’

The Queen reportedly passed the matter on to her Private Secretary, who in turn referred it to Prince Charles.

Charles suggested a member of Government should tell Andrew his daughters would not be given the roles, it is claimed.

A source told the newspaper: ‘The Prince of Wales is already conscious that he divides opinion more than his mother.

‘The last thing he wants is additional criticism by keeping peripheral royals on the public payroll.’

Princess Beatrice, who split with long-term boyfriend Dave Clark in August, said she was focusing on her ‘entrepreneurial ambitions’ after leaving the New York investment firm Sandbridge Capital in June.

This month she travelled to Bhutan, visited by the Duke of York in 2010, where she had a private meeting with the Buddhist nation’s royal family.
