Jamie Vardy’s form for Leicester City has certainly come under the microscope in recent weeks.

The striker has notched just three goals in 19 appearances so far this season – two of which have come in 12 league outings – as Vardy struggles to recapture the deadly form he exhibited last term.

Vardy plundered 24 league goals as he fired the Foxes to an unprecedented first Premier League title in their history, but the 29-year-old has been a far cry from the player that struck fear into the hearts of defences up and down the country in 2015/16.

Many fans, pundits and critics have been at a loss to explain his dramatic decline in form, but it now appears that a reason has been found for his lack of goals.

In Leicester’s 12 league matches this season Vardy has managed to get off just 15 shots – an average of only 1.25 per game – and his paltry shots-per-match ratio is only enough to put him in 62nd place on such a list, 90min reports.

In stark contrast, Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic leads the way with 59 shots from 11 games (5.36 per game), with Liverpool’s Philippe Countiho second with 49 (4.08) and Sergio Aguero third with 48 (4).

Clearly, Vardy is suffering from a lack of confidence along with the rest of Leicester’s players. Only time will tell if the England international can turn his performances around and aid Claudio Ranieri’s men as they attempt to climb the league standings in the next few weeks.
