This is the moment a teenage girl smashed into rocks when a bungee jump went disastrously wrong in Russia.
The incident, at a marble quarry close to the city of Murmansk in the country’s north-western Murmansk Oblast region, was caught on video.
The clip begins with the girl, 19-year-old Maryana, being cheered by her friends as she prepares to leap from a high platform.
The bungee cord is attached to another line across a gorge so that jumpers cross from side-to-side while simultaneously bouncing up-and-down.
Maryana’s jump seems to be going to plan as she plunges towards the river below before being pulled back up by the cord at the last second.
Her shocked friends can be heard on the video asking: ‘Has she hurt herself? How did it happen? How is this possible?’
The clip was widely shared in Russia after being uploaded to social media and local internet forums.
Incredibly, Maryana’s crash helmet saved her from suffering serious injuries but she had to be rushed to hospital.
Doctors said she had suffered only minor injuries but she is currently on sick leave from work.
Netizen Moska commented: ‘That is a weird bungee jump rope. The rope didn’t seem to stretch properly.’
And Alexander ‘SNPY’ Buglanov added: ‘I won’t do bungee jumping ever again. Don’t want to challenge my luck.’
