The Pastor Creflo Dollar Tithe Theft Scandal – My Deevanalysis

Creflo-Dollar-2Last weekend, a blog reader sent me a link to a story from NewsBuzzDaily about Pastor Creflo Dollar, the founder of World Changers Church International and a renowned American televangelist.

The title of the story wasn’t pleasant at all being that Pastor Dollar was a servant of God whom I deeply respect. A quick check to verify the story revealed the story was only carried by that website, but there was a mugshot of the pastor flowing free on the internet from a previous domestic abuse charge. There was also this other random story about Mr. Dollar trying to raise funds from his church members to buy a private jet which was to be used for mission work and that he was really desperate to purchase the jet.

NewsBuzzDaily claims Mr. Dollar was caught on camera helping himself to church tithes which amounted to $15,000. The first reaction that came from me was a chuckle because it just sounded plain ridiculous, especially to every well grounded Christian who understands what God’s Word says concerning tithes and tithing.

I don’t know how the church in America works, but here in Africa we do not see a pastor, minister or any servant of God who works in Jehovah’s vineyard as a thief for using tithe money. In fact, it is expected because the bible supports it.

In the Old Testament, when the children of Israel were being given an inheritance, God specified that the Levites shouldn’t be given any landed property or any inheritance like the rest of their brothers because their inheritance was in the house of the Lord and everything that was brought into the Tabernacle for God’s service.

This is what the bible says about the issue in Numbers Chapter 18, Verse 21:

“As for the tribe of Levi, your relatives, I will compensate them for their service in the Tabernacle. Instead of an allotment of land, I will give them the tithes from the entire land of Israel.” – New Living Translation

“I give to the Levites all the tithes in Israel as their inheritance in return for the work they do while serving at the tent of meeting.” – New International Version

“As to the descendants of Levi, certainly I’ve given all the tithes in Israel as their inheritance in return for their services that they perform at the Tent of Meeting.”  – International Standard Version

The reason (I want to believe) God made this decree was so the Levites would not be distracted in doing God’s work. You know how it is when you have bills to pay, kids to feed, housing and mobility expenses with little income to meet all these needs, you worry. And when you worry, you cannot meditate on God’s goodness in your life and then you can’t pray. Little by little, you begin to drift away from your source…your heavenly Father…and if Mercy does not prevail, that’s how you end up leaving the right path.

Life’s needs and priorities have always remained the same from the ancient era and even to this modern era. Just like the people of old needed their priests and Levites to draw them back to God and what was most important, so do we even today need our pastors, preachers, bishops and evangelist to give us that constant reality check.

But unlike the Levites of old who were left in peace to live a holy life, meditating, interceding and teaching God’s laws to the people, our modern day ministers are left to their own fate. Ordinarily, Christians are meant to bring a tenth of their earnings gladly and willingly to the house of God, but most of them don’t. Because pastors are to proud to beg or persuade their congregation for money, they take up day jobs to support themselves and their families. So they join the rest of us in mainstream daily hustling and worrying over money.

When this happens, just like I said, Mercy must find us all and embrace us before we fall deep into the dark. It’s quite interesting to read the blog comments on the story…how quick we are to condemn when we ourselves are very much a part of the problem.

The government collects taxes from you right? You are bound to pay. Sometimes, taxes are deducted directly from source before you get your paycheck. But nobody dares to complain when the government falls short of the responsibilities it was meant to use taxpayers money for. Instead you might get arrested if you default in tax payment.

So why do you fear the laws of an earthly government that could perish in a second over the government of the Ancient of Days that has endured from age to age? Aren’t we hypocrites?

I’m a Christian. I believe in paying my tithes. I believe it comes with a blessing. I also believe that the Levites (pastors like Creflo Dollar) are entitled to take church tithes for their personal use as God commanded.

Hear what God says in Malachi Chapter 3, Verses 8 to 10:

8 Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.

“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’

“In tithes and offerings.

9You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me.

10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

So who is now the real thief? Pastor Creflo Dollar or You?

It’s time to do a reality check on ourselves…whether we want to remain a cursed nation or a nation who fears God and keeps his laws.

P/S: I had wanted to take the Pastor Dollar story down, being that it definitely must be a satire. But I decided to let it be as a social experiment to see how our minds work and how we are quick to blame in ignorance without verifying what laws support the actions we take.

Anyways it doesn’t matter to know that we are a royal priesthood and that the priests of old didn’t partake of the tithes but of the burnt offering which is a symbology of Christ. “His body given to us to partake of and His blood to drink” but hey what do I know!

    1. Who partook of the tithe? God Or the angels?

It has been said that less than 5% of the church in America tithe. I do believe that the church in the USA will give an account to the Lord Jesus concerning thus matter and yes I do believe in the biblical pattern when it talks about the tithe. Your article was dead on.

I hope this is not true but if it is it’s no good.

You would think that, you put your trust in your pastor of all people. Then this comes about what is next in this world. Only trust one man “GOD”.
