Usain Bolt Wins 200m Final To Secure Eighth Olympic Gold [Watch Video]

Usain Bolt won the 200m with easeUsain Bolt won his eighth Olympic gold medal and continued his dream of a ‘triple-triple’ by cruising to victory in the 200m final, Complete Sports Nigeria reports.

The Jamaican sprinter ran a time of 19.78 seconds in Rio, comfortably finishing ahead of Andre de Grasse, who clocked 20.02 seconds, in second.

Despite the accomplishment, Bolt voiced his frustration after the race – at not being able to set a new world record.

That was always going to be unlikely considering the track was wet, but Bolt has never set low expectations. And running under his record time of 19.19 seconds was always on his mind.

But it was always about keeping the aim of nine Olympic golds alive. Having won the 100m and 200m, he’s one race – the 4x100m – away from adding to his legendary status.

It’s crazy to think that is has been seven years since the 29-year-old last set a world record in an individual sprint and, after jogging the semi-final in 19.78, it seemed possible that he could run under the time he set at the 2009 World Championships.

But it wasn’t to be, much to Bolt’s disappointment.

“The sadness for me would be that it is actually a slower time. I really wanted to run faster but I came out here to win,” he said, per theDaily Mail.

“I wasn’t happy with the time when I crossed the line, but I’m excited I got the medal, that’s the key thing. The fact that I came here and I executed what I wanted is a brilliant feeling.”

Bolt, who reiterated that this will be his last Olympic Games, has a ninth gold in sight. The 4x100m final takes place on Friday evening as Jamaica look to retain their crown.
