Trouble started on Saturday March 26, Easter’s eve in Illeh; a community in Ekpoma, Edo state when some artistes from Warri…Aisha Zamani and Warri Terry G were invited by a man named Balogun to entertain his customers at his bar, Balogun’s Street Bar.
Apart from the Warri artistes, some local entertainers from the community were also billed to perform. As they disputed over payment, Warri Terry G allegedly beat up Cuba Young, a dancer from Illeh who was hired to dance for him.
Igberaese Aikohi who is the President of Esan (Edo Central) Entertainers and Showmakers was brought in to settle the dispute. According to Aikohi, Warri Terry G and Aisha Zamani pounced on him and began to beat him up. Balogun, the owner of the bar also joined in beating him and ordered some Illeh community boys to beat him up as well.Aikohi sustained several injuries all over his body, including stab wounds on his shoulder and two deep cuts on his head. An X-ray carried out on him also showed internal fractures on his neck, and pieces of broken bottles in his head.
As at the time of filing this report, Balogun, the bar owner has been detained by the police of Ekpoma Division after the incident was reported at 1am on Sunday, March 27th.
Peace Ben Williams Blog spoke to the victim of the mob beating who is currently recuperating slowly at a hospital in Ekpoma. He sounded weak and tired. His wife, Agatha Igberaese Aikohi, who was at his bedside spoke to me and asked that Nigerians pray for the speedy healing and recovery of her husband.
