A video has surfaced on the web, showing a middle-aged Caucasian woman in a kitchen giving a cooking tutorial for a Nigerian native soup.
What amazes people who watched the video is that the woman is giving the tutorial in flawless Urhobo!…a local dialect of the Niger Delta people of Nigeria.
My Urhobo is not so perfect, but I believe she’s giving a tutorial for Owo soup, a popular Niger Delta soup thickened with cocoyams. She talks about adding beef and assorted meats in the soup.
I hear she cooks our dishes better than most Nigerian women.
My Warri peeps just contacted me to give me more information about this amazing woman. Her name is Nancy Akpofure. She isn’t Caucasian like I thought but bi-racial. Her father is Urhobo from the popular Akpofure family in Warri. Her mother is British.
She was born in London, grew up with her dad and grandma between Warri and the village. Her dad and brother are prominent lawyers in Warri. She currently lives in England, but resides in Agbassa area, whenever she drops by in Waffi.
